Smile Support Resources
Whether you are in treatment or just want to learn more before getting started, you can review the resources below to stay informed and empowered throughout your treatment.
Stay clear of sticky treats
Sticky foods like Starburst, toffee, and caramel can cling to your brackets and bend wires, encouraging plaque build-up around the braces and possibly even setting back your treatment progress.
Foods that risk bracket damage
Hard and crunchy things like ice, nuts, chips, and pizza crust can damage your brackets and wires. Some harder foods like apples and carrots can be cut into small pieces and chewed carefully in order to protect your orthodontic appliances.
Sugar‑management guidelines
Sugary foods and drinks like soda and candies feed cavity-causing bacteria and can lead to permanent staining and scarring on the teeth around the brackets. Minimizing sugar intake and keeping up with healthy brushing and flossing habits is important to make sure that the braces and teeth stay healthy.
Hygiene routines for braces
Try to brush 2-3 times per day, or after every meal, with a soft‑bristled toothbrush. Focus on the gums and any areas around brackets and wires and make sure to floss daily. Consider a water flosser to help clear hidden debris as well.

Please check your braces often for bent wires and broken brackets. If you do find any issues with your brackets or wires, call our office to schedule a prompt repair.
